Weights and measures [F]

Fanega: agrarian measure, of capacity and weight, of Arabic origin. This unit registers innumerable differences in terms of its equivalences, not only in the Spanish provinces but also in the Castilian-speaking countries.

In Argentina, capacity for aggregates = 137.25 liters (old) = 4 pages = 184 liters.

In Santa Fe = 1.83 of that of Buenos Aires.

In Spain, for aggregates, according to the Castile system: 1 bushel = 12 bushels; 1 bushel = 4 quarts; 1 cuartillo = 4 eighths; 1 eighth = 4 skeins. One bushel = 55,501 liters.

Austria also adopted its own system: 1 fanega Asturiana = 4 heminas; 1 hemina = 8 cushions; 1 cushion = 4 quarts. 1 Asturian fanega = 74.14 litres.

Bushel of fist: Surface measurement. In Avila = 6,000 varas² = 41,924 a.

Fanegada: Spanish agrarian measure. In Lleida = ⅕ daily wage = 8.7161 areas.

farad (F): SI derived unit The farad is the capacitance of an electrical capacitor between whose plates a potential difference of 1 volt appears when charged with an amount of electricity equal to 1 coulomb.

Fardo (container): In Cuba, for bags of sugar = 400 sacks (bags). For jerky, from 150 to 160 pounds (16 ounces each). For corks and for bottle straw sleeves = 500 sleeves.

In the Philippines = 3.5 arrobas.

Feddan: Egyptian Land Measure = 1,038 acres = 4,20083 ha. Another = 148 m² which is divided into 24 kirats.

Ferrado: The primitive ferrado was equivalent to ¼ of a fanega and was a special measure for grains and seeds. This unit of surface and capacity for aggregates is typical of Galicia.

Row: Old Spanish measure for water supply. In Valencia = 20 tiles = 144 feathers = 69,627 litres/s.

Fon: Absolute unit of acoustic powers. The number of phones of a sound is expressed by the number of decibels referred to level 0. This level has been agreed and it is admitted that it corresponds to the power 10 -16 watts/cm²

Foot (foot): Measurement of length. In England = 12 inches (inches) = 0.3047997 m, in the USA = 0.3048006 m (rounding these equivalencies = 30.48 cm).

Blockhouse: Turkish measure of capacity for aggregates = 35.5 litres.

Fortón: Turkish measure of capacity for aggregates (in Constantinople) = 25,110 litres.

Farm: Mexican surface measurement, for town = 1,200 × 1,200 varas (the vara = 0.838 m).

Furlong (stadium): English measure of length = 200 yards = 10 chains (chains) = 40 toises = 110 fathoms = 201.167824 m.
